Unable to start Oracle BI Presentation Services

PROBLEM

Sometimes when we try to start Oracle BI presentation server manually, it fails to start with error as “unable to connect to BI server. Then when I start the BI Administrator, it says unable to connect to BI server either its not running or its inaccessible”. The services on other machines start successfully when the same Webcat is hosted on other machines. Also, all other Webcat gets hosted successfully (i.e. presentation services start with other Webcat) on the machine where you were getting the errors previously.

When checked in the event log, it says sever returned -1 also the detailed description says “The Oracle BI Presentation Server service terminated with service-specific error 4294967295 (0xFFFFFFFF).”

CAUSE

When checked in “sawlog.log” file you will observe following error:
Invalid item \\?\C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog\paint\root\system\mktgcache\antares\sawguidstate.atr.

If you observe the files sawguidstate and sawguidstate.atr, you will find them empty, these files are in the directory $SADATADIR%\web\catalog\\root\system\mktgcache\ (example C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog\paint\root\system\mktgcache\antares).

SOLUTION
To resolve this error copy the same named files from $SADATADIR%\web\catalog\paint\root\system\mktgcache (example C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog\paint\root\system\mktgcache) and restarting the Oracle BI Presentation Services.

The presentation services will get started successfully.
